What Is Revenue per Megawatt?
Revenue per megawatt is the annual revenue a fleet produces for each megawatt of power it consumes. It is the commercial counterpart to tokens per watt: one measures output per unit of energy, the other measures dollars.
It matters because power, not hardware, is the binding constraint. Megawatts are procured years ahead, tied to grid interconnects and long-term contracts, and are effectively fixed once secured. Given a fixed power envelope, the question that decides an operator’s economics is how much revenue each megawatt produces, not how many megawatts they hold.
Stack Position Sets Revenue Density
The same constrained megawatt produces very different revenue depending on where a fleet sits in the stack:

Across those three positions, revenue on an identical power envelope can differ by roughly five times. The hardware inside the building may be the same in each case. What changes is how far up the stack the operator sells.
This is why software attachment increasingly drives operator valuation, and why inference attach has become a distinguishing metric rather than a side business.
